Energy Schemes for Farmers

Diesel pumps are costly to run, and grid power for irrigation is often unreliable or available only at night. The central government's farm-energy push answers both problems with solar: subsidized solar pumps that run free on sunshine during the day, solarization of existing electric pumps, and the chance to turn barren land into a steady income source by hosting a small solar power plant. Subsidies flow through state implementing agencies, so always apply via the official national portal's state links — and never pay a "registration fee" on unofficial websites.

PM-KUSUM — Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan — MNRE's solar scheme (till 31 March 2026): 30% central + 30% state subsidy on standalone solar pumps and pump solarization (50% central subsidy in NE/hill/island states), plus income from 500 kW–2 MW farmer-hosted solar plants under Component A.
