Soil & Inputs Schemes

Healthy soil and the right inputs decide how much a field can produce — and how much a farmer spends to produce it. These central-government schemes help farmers test their soil for free, cut wasteful fertilizer use, switch to certified organic farming with financial support, and get subsidised seeds and inputs for staple crops through their state agriculture departments.

• Soil Health Card Scheme — free soil testing of 12 parameters plus a personalised fertilizer recommendation card, reissued in roughly 2-year cycles.
• PKVY (Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana) — Rs 31,500 per hectare over 3 years for cluster-based organic farming, including Rs 15,000/ha paid directly to farmers and free PGS-India certification.
• NFSM (National Food Security Mission) — subsidised certified seeds, demonstrations, nutrients, small machines and training for rice, wheat, pulses, coarse and nutri-cereal growers, with priority for women and small/marginal farmers.
