PM-AASHA (Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay Sanrakshan Abhiyan)

At a glance

PM-AASHA ("Prime Minister's Annadata Income Protection Campaign") was launched in September 2018 to make sure farmers get a fair price for notified crops — mainly pulses, oilseeds and copra. In 2024 the government approved its continuation as an integrated scheme, combining the Price Support Scheme (PSS), Price Deficiency Payment Scheme (PDPS), Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) and the Price Stabilisation Fund (PSF), with an outlay of Rs 35,000 crore up to 2025-26. The idea is simple: if the market price of your notified crop drops below the MSP, the government either buys your crop at MSP or pays you part of the difference.

Who is eligible

  • Farmers growing notified pulses, oilseeds or copra in states where the scheme is activated for that season.
  • You must be pre-registered on the procurement portal (registration is usually done through state agencies, procurement centres or Common Service Centres) with valid land records.
  • For MIS, growers of notified perishables (such as tomato, onion, potato) in states that request intervention when prices fall at least 10% below normal.

Benefits

  • PSS (Price Support Scheme): Government agencies (such as NAFED and NCCF) physically buy your produce at MSP when the market price falls below MSP during harvest. From the 2024-25 season, procurement of notified pulses, oilseeds and copra can cover up to 25% of national production.
  • PDPS (Price Deficiency Payment Scheme): Instead of physical purchase, the government pays you the gap between MSP and the market (modal) price — up to 15% of the MSP value — directly into your bank account when you sell notified oilseeds in a notified market yard. Coverage has been raised from 25% to 40% of state production.
  • MIS (Market Intervention Scheme): Protects growers of perishable crops from distress sales when prices crash.
  • Payments come through Direct Benefit Transfer to your Aadhaar-linked bank account.

How to apply

  1. Watch for your state's announcement that procurement has opened for a crop and season.
  2. Register (or have a Common Service Centre operator register you) on the designated procurement portal — NAFED's e-Samridhi portal is used for much of the pulses/oilseeds procurement. Your land records and crop details are verified against state records.
  3. Book a slot, take your produce to the notified procurement centre or market yard, and sell.
  4. Track the payment to your bank account on the portal.

Q: Does PM-AASHA cover wheat and rice? A: No. Wheat and paddy are procured under separate long-standing MSP operations. PM-AASHA focuses on pulses, oilseeds, copra and (under MIS) perishables.

Q: Do I get paid in cash at the centre? A: No. Payment goes directly to your registered bank account.

Q: What if I did not register before harvest? A: Only pre-registered farmers can sell under the scheme. Register as soon as your state opens the window for the season.
