e-NAM (National Agriculture Market)

At a glance

e-NAM is a pan-India electronic trading portal launched on 14 April 2016 by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare. It connects existing APMC mandis (regulated wholesale markets) into one online national market. Instead of selling only to the traders present in your local mandi, your produce can be bid on by traders across the network — which usually means better price discovery. As per the Press Information Bureau, 1,656 mandis across 23 states and 4 union territories have been integrated, with about 1.80 crore farmers and 2.72 lakh traders registered, and total trade worth about Rs 4.82 lakh crore since inception.

Who is eligible

  • Any farmer who sells produce in an APMC mandi that is connected to e-NAM.
  • Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) can also register and trade — over 4,700 FPOs are on the platform.
  • Traders and commission agents register separately through their APMC.

Benefits

  • Better prices: your lot is auctioned online, so more buyers compete for it.
  • Transparent weighing and quality checks: produce is assayed (quality-tested) at the mandi, so bids are based on actual quality.
  • Direct payment: the sale amount is transferred to your bank account — no waiting on middlemen.
  • Live prices: you can check current rates in nearby and distant mandis on the portal or mobile app before deciding where and when to sell.
  • No cost to join: farmer registration is free.

How to apply

  1. Go to enam.gov.in and choose "Registration", selecting registration type "Farmer" and your APMC (mandi).
  2. Enter your details, including a working email/mobile — you receive a login ID and password.
  3. Complete the profile with your bank details and land record reference. Your local APMC verifies the application.
  4. Once approved, you get a permanent farmer login. You can also register in person at the e-NAM help desk in a connected mandi, or use the e-NAM mobile app.

  • Aadhaar card
  • Bank account details (passbook copy or cancelled cheque) — an Aadhaar-linked account is recommended
  • Mobile number
  • Land record / survey number reference (as asked by your APMC)

Common questions

Q: Do I have to travel to a faraway mandi to sell on e-NAM? A: No. You bring produce to your usual connected mandi. The bidding happens online, so distant buyers can bid without you travelling.

Q: Does registration cost anything? A: No. Farmer registration on e-NAM is free.

Q: How do I get my money? A: The payment is sent directly to the bank account you registered, after the sale is completed.

Q: Can I still sell through my usual commission agent? A: Yes. You may trade directly through the app or continue through a registered commission agent — the online auction works either way.
