Mechanization Schemes

Machines save time, cut labour costs and make timely sowing and harvesting possible — but they are expensive. The central government's mechanization push works two ways: subsidies so farmers can buy equipment (including the new generation of agricultural drones), and Custom Hiring Centres so small and marginal farmers can rent machines by the day instead of buying them at all.

• SMAM (Sub-Mission on Agricultural Mechanization) — 40-50% subsidy on farm machines and kisan drones via the agrimachinery.nic.in DBT portal, plus around 40% project assistance for setting up Custom Hiring Centres that rent machinery at village level.
