Kisan Credit Card (KCC) — including the Modified Interest Subvention Scheme (MISS)
At a glance
The Kisan Credit Card gives farmers a revolving credit line at their bank for crop cultivation, animal husbandry, dairy, and fisheries, so they do not have to borrow from moneylenders. Under the Modified Interest Subvention Scheme (MISS), the Government of India subsidises the interest so that short-term KCC loans cost 7% per year, and only 4% effective if repaid on time. As of early 2025, 7.72 crore operative KCC accounts carried loans of over Rs 10 lakh crore (source: PIB).
Who is eligible
- Farmers — owner-cultivators, tenant farmers, oral lessees, and sharecroppers
- Self Help Groups (SHGs) or Joint Liability Groups (JLGs) of farmers
- Farmers engaged in animal husbandry, dairy, and fisheries (KCC was extended to these activities)
Benefits
- Revolving credit for crop production and allied needs; the limit is set by the bank based on your cropping pattern and scale of finance.
- Interest subvention (MISS): short-term loans up to Rs 3 lakh are available at 7% per year — the government gives banks 1.5% interest subvention. The Union Budget 2025-26 announced raising this MISS limit from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh; the Cabinet approved continuation of MISS for FY 2025-26 on the existing terms, so confirm the limit currently applied by your bank / on the official portal.
- Prompt Repayment Incentive: repay on time and you get up to 3% extra relief, making the effective rate 4% per year.
- For loans taken only for animal husbandry or fisheries, the interest benefit applies up to Rs 2 lakh.
- Collateral-free lending up to the RBI-notified threshold (commonly Rs 2 lakh for crop loans — confirm the current limit with your bank).
- KCC usually includes personal accident insurance cover and eligibility for crop insurance — confirm details with the issuing bank.

Common questions
Q: What interest will I actually pay? On a short-term crop loan within the MISS limit: 7% per year, reduced to an effective 4% if you repay on or before the due date.
Q: Is the limit Rs 3 lakh or Rs 5 lakh now? Budget 2025-26 announced Rs 5 lakh; the Cabinet's May 2025 continuation order kept the existing Rs 3 lakh terms. Ask your bank which limit currently applies — confirm on the official portal.
Q: I am a tenant farmer without land papers. Can I get a KCC? Yes — tenant farmers, sharecroppers, and oral lessees are eligible, often through JLG lending. Talk to your bank branch.
Q: Do I need collateral? Not for small crop loans within the RBI collateral-free threshold. Above that, the bank may ask for security.
